Dancing with Power: An Embodied Path to Conscious Leadership

Recently I found myself caught in a sticky conflict that escalated.  It was like being in an eddy, a river current – stuck, unable to go forward or backward, going around and around. When I put my oar in the water to try to row out of the eddy, I just got sucked back in.  Sound familiar?

As I reflected on the situation, I realized I hadn’t paid attention to my signals – the sensations in my body that told me something was up, that I needed to take a breath, or step back.  I needed to pause and read the landscape, my own and the other person’s.  In other words, I wasn’t reading the water.  I wasn’t noticing the precise place in the rippling current where, with some effort, I could have gotten myself back into the main flow of the river.

The impact? A broken relationship.

If you’re an organizational leader or change agent, I suspect you’ve had similar experiences, where your capacity to navigate a challenge or messy situation didn’t result in the impact you wanted to have.  I get it, and I can help.

In 2025, I’ll be sharing the frameworks and methodologies that I rely on to come back to my centre and respond from a grounded place in a new offering. Dancing with Power: An Embodied Path to Conscious Leadership is a program for leaders who are looking to deepen their capacity to cultivate more presence, awareness, and connection (to themselves and others), and learn to use their leadership power consciously and with intention.

This program is for leaders who are looking to deepen their capacity to cultivate more presence, awareness, and connection (to themselves and others), and learn to use their leadership power consciously and with intention.

You will learn about the 7 key behaviours related to a leader’s healthy use of power from Julie Diamond’s Power Index (DPI) to give you insight into how you and those around you experience your use of power.

Embodied practices from Arawana Hayashi’s Social Presencing Theatre, Theatre of the Oppressed, and other arts-based methodologies will help you integrate the learning and cultivate a leadership that is more embodied and conscious.

Research and experience tell us how leaders’ use of their power is the difference-maker in how effective they will be in their leadership role, whether their focus is on innovation, team engagement, addressing conflict, navigating change or driving equity.  You can’t achieve your results without tending to how you use your power.  Being aware and paying attention to this energy called power – how it lives in you, in good times and bad – will elevate your leadership. By accessing the wisdom in your body, you will enhance your ability to see and navigate skillfully the increasingly complex landscapes.

Schedule:

This program will be delivered via zoom, every Tuesday, starting March 25th through April 22nd, 2025, from 9 am PT to 12 pm PT/12 pm to 3 pm ET.  Each session is 3 hours.  We will take a break on April 8th, 2025.

To effectively participate and get the most out of the program, you will need to have your video camera on.  To increase people’s comfort, especially beginners with SPT, TO, and other embodied practices, the sessions will NOT be recorded.
